Porcelain Bear

The porcelain polar bear is my chosen professional mascot as it is analogous to porcelain embodying the beauty, dignity, strength and integrity inherent in porcelain. Using porcelain as a craft, art and a design medium in ways and for purposes that might be unexpected is the essence of my practice. Exploiting the strengths of the medium; its opacity or translucency, its delicacy or its robustness and strength, my intention is to produce objects that perform their function well and contribute a unique element.

“Design is shaolin kung fu where Art is bare knuckle fist fighting. I mean artists can do whatever they want for their art and this liberation is the point of what they do. Design on the other hand has disciplines and givens and to ignore these misses the point of purpose. Good art communicates ideas, good design serves intended function, and I find the fusion of this incredibly inspirational.”

"'simple(y) (a)chair' is a sculptural abstraction of the chair, heavy and hard, but curved and playful, the form aims to highlight the stoic, reliable, and welcoming human qualities we, as humans, can identify in our furnishings, taking them beyond object, to meaningful lasting pieces with character and soul. I picture this chair sitting patiently in the corner ready to help when needed..."

FROZEN MOMENTS IN TIME — “I love producing objects that can straddle the world of art yet they are a product of function. To create a piece that will transcend beyond my life and be cherished is such a gift and honour. My goal as a designer is straddling the world of art and functional objects.”

Arthur Koutoulas

Not one to be easily categorised. With over thirty years of practice as a multi-disciplinary conceptual designer, Arthur has experience in the design, manufacture and construction of spaces, places and objects. He straddles the boundaries between Art, Design & Architecture. Arthur has received numerous awards, including the prestigious IDEA Award in 2022. He now explores how furniture can inform architecture as a practicing academic.

"Fletcher’s skill in facilitating connections between art, artists and collectors also underpins her approach to curation, which acknowledges art collecting as a highly personal and emotive act. - Hayley Kurnow, Luxury Report magazine 2024
